After spending most of last season out injured, West Ham United's Kieron Dyer is hoping to play a key role next term.

Dyer made just three appearances for the Hammers following his move from Newcastle United before suffering a double leg-break in August last year.

Having worked to try and ensure his first-team fitness, the England international is relishing the thought of getting back into Alan Curbishley's starting 11 and helping the side to a higher level in the Barclay's Premier League.

He told the club's official website: "You look at the likes of Everton and Aston Villa and I do believe that we can finish ahead of them if we can keep everyone fit."

"The key to their success has been they have had the same starting eleven. Let's see if we can get everyone fit and if we can go on a run."

Dyer has also given club captain Lucas Neill his backing with a resounding endorsement.

"As a player, if you have got a problem, he will sort it out," said Dyer. "he is a great man."

"He thought the players were low [after the 4-1 defeat at Manchester United in May] and suggested a get together to build team spirit up. That's the kind of man he is."
